2022 FORD MUSTANG SHELBY GT500 ORDER GUIDE CONFIRMS DEATH OF CARBON FIBER HANDLING PACKAGE

The 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 dealer order guide has made its way to the internet, and there’s some bad news. While we welcome the addition of the eight (!) new colors, and the GT500 Heritage Edition, we’re bummed to report that the Mustang Shelby GT500 Carbon Fiber Handling Package has already left this earth after a single model year (2021). This will likely help pump the value of GT500 Mustangs equipped with the package in the future, but will force customers into either the much more affordable and basic Handling Package, or the beaucoup bucks Carbon Fiber Track Package.

The 2021 Shelby GT500 Carbon Fiber Handling Package is, or was, a $10,000 upgrade that was meant to bridge the gap between the basic $1,750 Handling Package and über-premium Carbon Fiber Track Package that’s priced from $18,500 USD.

The Carbon Fiber Handling Package included 20-inch carbon fiber wheels that are painted black, new-for-2021 adjustable strut top mounts, a catch can, a Gurney flap in the rear, splitter wickers and a wheel locking kit. Unlike the more extreme Carbon Fiber Track Package, the rear seats in the Mustang Shelby GT500 Carbon Fiber Handling Package stay in place, as do the standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The Track Pack gets upgraded to the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2, which is supremely effective at lateral grip traction, but not as good at forward acceleration. Exposed carbon fiber wheels, instrument panel, and massive GT4 carbon fiber wing remained exclusive to the 2021 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Carbon Fiber Track Package, as well. And now with the CF Handling Package’s cancelation, they still do.

The 2022 Mustang Shelby GT500 will have a starting MSRP of $73,465 in the US market, plus a $1,195 destination fee and $2,600 Gas Guzzler Tax, bringing the total to $77,260 USD, before options. Dealer orders for the new muscle cars opened on Monday, November 15, with vehicles on sale Spring 2022.

As an update for the 2022 model year, the Mustang Shelby GT500 also adds Ford Performance exclusive Code Orange – a hue that’s only shared with the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ford GT supercar.

Code Orange joins eight other new colors for the 2022 Mustang family in total, including Atlas Blue Metallic, Brittany Blue Metallic (available on GT500 Heritage and Coastal Limited Editions only), Cyber Orange Metallic Tri-Coat, Dark Matter Gray Metallic, Eruption Green Metallic, Grabber Blue Metallic and Mischievous Purple Metallic.
