Militant commander among 5 killed in Kulgam gunfights

A militant commander was among five people killed in southern kashmir in two separate gun battles today.

According to police five militants including a top commander of TRF were killed in two different encounters in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar told GNS that top commander of TRF Afaq Sikander has been killed along with other three militants in two separate encounters.

Earlier reports said that a joint team of Police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Pombai and Gopalpora. As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the militants fired upon the forces triggering off an gunfight.

Meanwhile Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two militant associates of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit and recovered ready to use IEDs from their possession in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

In a statement, police said that during joint naka by Police Pulwama, 55 RR and 182 bn CRPF at circular road Pulwama they apprehended two active associates of militant outfit LeT.

The statement further stated that the arrested militant associates were identified as Amir Bashir Dar son of Bashir ahmad Dar resident of Sirnoo Pulwama and Mukhtar Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Jabar Bhat resident of Matri Bugh, Shopian.

Poice claimed that two ready to use IEDs where recovered from their possession. In this regard case FIR No. 315/ 21 of Police station Pulwama registered and investigation taken up, reads the statement.
