There’s been an incredible amount of excitement surrounding the new 2022 Chevrolet Silverado and 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks with their new looks, features, trims and technologies; it’s hard not to be. Unfortunately, we were left in the dark regarding when production for the next generation trucks was set to begin. However, a screenshot from GM’s dealer network to GM-Trucks.com reveals details on exact dates regarding when dealers will order “old” 2022 models for the last time, along with when “new” 2022 model orders will be accepted.
Production Start Dates For New 2022 Silverado And Sierra
Orders for last generation trucks that were produced within the first half of the 2022 model year had their last ordering cycle on December 9th, 2021. Meanwhile, the new 2022 Chevrolet Silverado and 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 pickups will be available to order starting on December 16th.
After the first round of orders has been submitted by dealers on December 16th, production of the new model will begin two months later in the Silao, Mexico plant on February 7th, 2022. Meanwhile, the Fort Wayne Assembly Plant (FWA) starts just a month later, on March 7th, 2022.

The DOSP (Dealer Order Submission Process) Cycle refers to orders submitted by dealers for trucks they would like to have in stock. GM then takes the orders, figures out what they can produce, and creates a manufacturing schedule optimized for dealer demand and production capability. “MCM,” as seen in the document, could refer to the “Mid Cycle Model.”
The information also details severe constraints on the remaining “old” 2022 production. There will be no 3.0-liter diesel engines, and only 15 percent of 6.2-liter engines will be produced. In addition, the LT Trail Boss orders are limited to 13 percent, while the Custom TrailBoss is limited to 4 percent, and work trucks are only 10 percent. Keep in mind that these bulletins are for the outgoing Silverado and Sierra, as GM works to ramp up production volume of the new trucks that were revealed just a few months ago.
