Nicklin Hames: ‘I’m Back’ for 2022 and ’23

She is returning for a fifth year on the court as well as looking to a future in coaching

Nebraska volleyball will continue to have the services of Nicklin Hames.

The staple at setter for the past four years, Hames announced on social media Sunday that she would be returning to play for NU.

“I’m back,” Hames said. “As a new position in 2022. As a graduate assistant in 2023.”

Hames has started at setter each of her four seasons. She has been named AVCA All-America honorable mention three times while she was named second team for the 2020 season. She has an extra season of eligibility due to the 2020 COVID-impacted season not counting against a player's clock.

The announcement of a return in 2023 as a graduate assistant continues a tradition under coach John Cook. Several former players have gone on to full-time coaching positions, including Dani Busboom Kelly, who was the AVCA National Coach of the Year this past season, and Kelly Hunter, who was recently promoted to full-time assistant with Nebraska.

The return of Hames to a new position opens the door for Kennedi Orr to take over setting duties. Orr was the No. 1 overall prospect by PrepVolleyball.com. She played in just two matches last season.
