FIRST S550 SHELBY MUSTANG GT500KR GOING TO ACUTION

The very first 2022 S550 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR is crossing the Barrett-Jackson auction block this weekend. This mega Mustang manifested itself last month and Shelby American has scheduled production to begin this month. And whatever the “King of The Road” Mustang auction price is settled at, it will all go to support a couple of charities.

Shelby American – founded by the late, great Carroll Shelby himself – is celebrating its 60th year anniversary this year and has come together with Ford to create the beastly Mustang GT500KR that sports an impressive spec sheet. This is only the third time in company history that “King of The Road” status has been used. Powering the S550 Mustang is a massive 5.2-liter Predator V8 that also features a twin-screw Whipple supercharger displacing 3.8 liters on its own, that’s enough to produce over 900 horsepower. The Mustang KR also features some aesthetically pleasing exterior elements as well such as a carbon-fiber hood, front splitter, and rear diffuser. In addition, A wide body kit, polished supercharger, rear seat delete with harness bar, and Le Mans style over the top racing stripes remain options for the Mustang KR.

The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR will be a limited run vehicle, only 225 will be built in total. 45 of those are allocated for overseas sales, leaving 180 for the American market. If you’re looking to purchase one straight from Shelby the GT500KR will cost $127,895 however if you own a 2020-2022 Shelby Mustang GT500 you can upgrade at the cost of $54,995 although only 60 of these upgrades will be sold.

Proceeds from the auction will go on to support two charities, JDRF and the Carroll Shelby Foundation. JDRF is an organization that helps research and fight against type 1 diabetes. The Carroll Shelby Foundation helps raise funds for children with life threatening illnesses as well as support automotive educational programs. Order books are set to open February 1st of this year.
