You may recognize the gloss black 1970 Dodge Charger with a visible carbon fiber front end from the Fast 9 movie. However, the exhaust tone and movie spotlight can only do the “Tantrum” so much justice, as it’s clear there’s a lot more that is going on under the hood of this Speedkore-build Mopar muscle car than one may think.
“Tantrum” Speedkore Dodge Charger: Details
The 1970 Dodge Charger designed by Sean Smith and built by Speedkore features a 9.0-liter DOHC Big-Block Mercury Racing engine that produces 1,100 horsepower. However, the team that made the car decided that wasn’t enough power and added in two 94mm turbos which gave the engine an output of 1,350 horsepower with pump gas. Meanwhile, if racing fuel is added to the car, those numbers see a significant bump up to over 1,650 ponies.
The entire car is carbon fiber which can be faintly seen beneath the gloss black paint if the light hits it just right. Meanwhile, the front has been lightly painted to expose the carbon fiber for onlookers to see. The vehicle rides on HRE wheels while Baer brakes give the beast of a muscle car its stopping power. The other exterior components are brushed aluminum which matches nicely with the wheels and contrasts with the black.
The interior of the Speedkore 1970 Dodge Charger “Tantrum” features door panels with carbon fiber, Alcantara, brushed aluminum, and leather, all coming together to give a more luxurious look and feel. In addition, the shifter features a pistol-grip handle which also showcases carbon fiber and aluminum. Almost everything in the vehicle’s interior is unique and one of a kind, and it all works perfectly.
After filming Fast and Furious 9, the Dodger Charger Tantrum was gifted to Vin Diesel, which is quite a gift when considering that over $600,000 had gone into the build.
