Ford Performance Parts has just made the 2019-2021 Ford Mustang GT350R Steering Wheel available to purchase, which means you can now affix your S550 Mustang with the race-oriented steering wheel. Of course, Ford states that the part is intended as a replacement part for use only in a GT350R. Installation of the part in a different vehicle may violate U.S. and Canadian laws and regulations related to vehicle emissions.
Ford Mustang GT350R: An Upgrade That Elevates Driver Feel
Switching out the original steering wheel for your S550 Mustang for one from the GT350R really can’t be the worst modification to the car. It’s hard to see how a steering wheel would mess with the vehicle’s emissions, but that’s what Ford Motor Company says. The steering wheel costs $885 and features all the buttons and wiring needed to replace the steering wheel, which means customers won’t lose any of their previous steering wheel’s functionality, except heating, if they have that option on their Mustang.
Given that the Ford Mustang GT350R is no longer being produced, this gives S550 Mustang owners a chance to nod to the car’s existence while upgrading the steering wheel feel with an elevated grip, thumb grooves for better control while steering around corners, and of course the red center stripe. The steering wheel also sports red stitching, which certainly gives the wheel a sportier look.
The customer can do the installation of the steering wheel themselves with the aid of the instruction sheet provided by a PDF on the Ford Performance Parts website. Of course, the airbag will likely be the most challenging part of the installation process as failure to precisely follow the instructions could result in injury from an accidental deployment.
