THE FORD MAVERICK MAY SOON GET A VENTILATED TRUCK BED PERFECT FOR CAMPING

The Ford Maverick has been white hot out of the gate, with the hybrid model already been sold out for the model year, and orders abruptly halted just so the automaker could catch up with the incredible demand. However, for those waiting, don’t fret, as there could be something worth your while down the way.

MC&T recently discovered a Ford Motor Company patent that could add an air vent that connects from the cab to the bed that’s specific to unibody trucks. This could allow for a climate controlled bed space, which could be great for anybody carrying temperature sensitive cargo, or for those looking to set up a tent in the bed for camping, and looking for an added level of comfort.

Ventilated Truck Bed Patent Only For Unibody Truck

Applied in June 2020 and published 18 months later, the Ford Motor Company patent claims that the design incorporates a “cab back panel has a hidden section outside the cargo area,” and that “an air extractor is held within the hidden section of the cab back panel.”

“This disclosure relates generally to venting air from a passenger compartment of a truck and, more particularly, a truck having a unibody construction,” explains the patent.

After purchasing a topper shell to fit over the truck bed, the air, be it cool or hot from the cabin, would gradually make its way into the back and would, in turn, keep a regulated temperature, ensuring that camping out of the back of the truck would be comfortable. According to the patent, the venting method implements an air extractor to the back panel of the cab (which is also the front wall of the bed), which then pulls air from the cabin out and into the truck bed.

Alternatively, there is a chance that they could simply put a vent in a hidden part of the back panel that connects to the bed, which would allow air to circulate freely. Both ideas feature two vents or extractors that circulate the air, one is an upper part that connects directly to the truck’s bed, and another is lower that goes under the bed.

Whatever the case may be, the Ford Maverick is a highly versatile truck that works as an all-rounder for an assortment of people. Be it for commutes to work, minor trips with the need for extra cargo space, or as a work truck. Both the hybrid and EcoBoost models’ gas mileage makes it an extremely desirable vehicle. Especially now with how high gas prices are.
