BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THE FORD MAVERICK HAS MORE CABIN SPACE THAN THE RANGER

When buying a truck, you may shrug off the possibility of purchasing a small truck due to, well, the implications. “Small” generally means that it doesn’t have a lot of cabin space in the case of a truck, but then again, packaging has come a long way. Look no further than the popular Ford Maverick when compared to its larger truck sibling, the Ford Ranger.

Ford Maverick Vs. Ranger: Cabin Size

There are many reasons for paying close attention to the numbers for the interior space of a vehicle. When using a car as a daily driver, family vehicle, or commuter, the interior space is vital to consider as it directly coincides with comfort. Sure the seats are also important, but you don’t want to spend a day driving on a road trip with your family if everyone will feel claustrophobic. As it turns out, the Ford Maverick has a slightly larger interior passenger volume than that of the Ford Ranger SuperCrew and SuperCab.

When taking a look at Ford’s specification pages of the Ford Maverick and Ford Ranger, all it takes is a bit of side-by-side comparison to see that the Ranger is, in fact, slightly smaller on the inside. That goes for both the SuperCab (89.2 cubic feet) and the full-bodied SuperCrew (97.6 cubic feet). As for the Maverick, the interior volume comes to an impressive 100.3 cubic feet.

Of course, the Ford Ranger still wins by a long shot in bed length, overall length, wheelbase, height, and width. But if you’re more concerned about day-to-day interior comfort than you are about hauling and towing things, the Maverick may certainly be the better choice for your new truck purchase. That and, of course, the fantastic gas mileage. You just gotta find one, is the thing.

This isn’t the only segment where Ford vehicles are different than they appear. For example, another comparison shows that the Ford Bronco features a smaller interior passenger volume than its sibling, the Bronco Sport. The Bronco Sport has 105.7 cubic feet of interior space, the 2-door Bronco has 99 cubic feet, and the 4-door has 103.7 cubic feet.

Ford fans may not be surprised by this fact, as both the Bronco and Ranger feature a similar body-on-frame architecture and are built in the same plant in Michigan. Meanwhile, the Bronco Sport and Maverick share a common platform in the C2 architecture, and are built in Hermosillo, Mexico. So it makes a bit of sense how both of the C2 stablemates stack up in interior volume versus their larger T6 comrades.

We’re sure the next-gen Ford Ranger due in America by 2023 will return order to the hierarchy, as its interior is all-new, and is said to have more space than before.
