NEW SKETCH FROM GM DESIGN MAKES US THINK OF A CORVETTE SUV

General Motors Design on Instagram has recently shared a sketch of what is undoubtedly a high-riding crossover. It carries GM’s current design language while also featuring details that point us towards an electric vehicle. But, the most crucial element is the black boomerang design element on the side, which resembles what you would see on the C8 Corvette.

Since we often see design sketches posted on Instagram by General Motors Design, it’s not likely that this is a preview of an electric Corvette SUV, but it certainly makes us think of it. This rendering was created by Jason Chen, who has been a creative designer at GM since 2015.

Corvette SUV Details

A Corvette brand could be a $12 billion idea, according to some sell-side auto industry analysts. And, based on a Bloomberg report, GM is considering at least “one new electric vehicle inspired by its Corvette sports car, potentially expanding the brand from a single performance model into a family of vehicles.” The first expansion vehicle will certainly be a Corvette SUV. Like the mid-engine design, GM flirted with the idea of a Corvette brand in the past but never gave it the green light for fear of blowback. However, now that we saw how successful this idea was for Ford when they released the Mustang Mach-E, the decision makers within the company have warmed up to the idea. Hell, even Lotus is doing it.

As one can imagine, that means that several Corvette-brand concept vehicle designs are already underway, aiming to attract a wider audience. It’s also possible that the vehicle could come out by 2025. However, nothing is definite, and only time will tell whether or not this rendering by Chen will inspire the rumored model and translate it into a production version.

Purists may not be be happy about the idea of a Corvette SUV. But, unit sales are another story, and at the end of the day, that’ll be the main deciding factor in any company’s decision.
