FIRST RETAIL C8 CORVETTE Z06 CONVERTIBLE SELLS FOR $1 MILLION

The first retail production built 2023 Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06 Convertible made its way to the 2022 Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction, and it got a considerable amount of attention as it managed to raise $1 million USD for charity. Per usual, the winning bidder is Rick Hendrick, who has regularly paid top-dollar for GM vehicles going under the gavel for charity auction over the years.

Included in the sale is a two-day Corvette class at Ron Fellows Performance Driving School at Spring Mountain Motor Resort in Pahrump, NV. Hendrick will also have the option to take delivery of the C8 Corvette Z06 convertible at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. All of the $1 million hammer price will go to benefit the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Named after the U.S. Supreme Court’s first African American justice, TMCF represents students attending historically black colleges and universities, medical schools, and law schools. The car was sold on Saturday, April 9.

The new American supercar is set apart by its beating heart, the all-new 5.5-liter LT6; the highest horsepower naturally aspirated V8 to hit the market on any production car. The flat-plane crankshaft design encourages drivers to push the tachometer to a breathtaking 8,600 rpm, creating 670 horsepower. Almost every detail of the Corvette Z06‘s striking appearance serves a purpose for aerodynamics, handling, or cooling, with cues that accentuate the car’s sense of motion. The car’s designers pulled out the fenders to accommodate larger wheels and air intakes, giving the Corvette Z06 a wider, lower appearance, further emphasized by a unique rear fascia that features centered floating exhaust bezels.

In the driver-focused cockpit, premium materials are complemented with available carbon-fiber trim that expresses the car’s lightweight, track-focused mantra. Unique features include an available carbon fiber-wrapped steering wheel and shift paddles, custom leather-wrapped instrument panel, and doors. In addition, the buyer will get to choose from eight interior color options complete with sueded microfiber upper interior trim and GT2 seats with Napa leather and carbon-fiber trim. They will also get to choose from 12 available exterior colors, trim, and their desired options.
