MSI 2022 groups drawn, where are T1 and G2 Esports starting?

With less than three weeks until the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational kicks off, the groups have officially been drawn.

Following the LCS lower-bracket final yesterday, it was decided what the MSI 2022 groups will look like. The teams will be distributed across three groups to start off the action in Busan, South Korea. Just like last year, there will be an uneven number of teams at the event with 11 participants total.

Despite the uneven number of teams, the groups still turned out very exciting with some hotly anticipated matchups going down right from the start of the tournament. Groups A and B will consist of four teams while group C will only hold three teams.

Complete overview of the MSI 2022 groups

The most noteworthy group of them all might be group C, but not because of its uneven number of teams. The reason why it stands out the most is that the LEC’s G2 Esports has been matched with the LCS representative. This means the return of the EU vs. NA rivalry, which is something many fans in the West have been wanting.

In group A, LCK representative T1 seems set for a fairly easy time when going up against the likes of Team Aze, DetonatioN FocusMe, and what will be Saigon Buffalo from the VCS. Even though teams at MSI can never be underestimated, it’s expected that T1 will cruise its way through the group just like in the recent LCK Spring Split.

In group B, the defending MSI champions RNG will be the big favorite but PSG Talon is looking to play spoiler. As seen at previous international events, PSG Talon and the PCS region can bring some unexpected aggression that can catch teams off guard if not prepared for it. Group B will also give plenty of chances to Istanbul Wildcats and RED Canids to potentially advance.

MSI 2022 Group A:

  • T1 (LCK)
  • DetonatioN FocusMe (LJL)
  • Saigon Buffalo (VCS)
  • Team Aze (LLA)

MSI 2022 Group B:

  • RNG (LPL)
  • PSG Talon (PCS)
  • RED Canids (CBLOL)
  • Istanbul Wildcats (TCL)

MSI 2022 Group C:

  • G2 Esports (LEC)
  • 0RDER (LCO)
  • 100 Thieves / Evil Geniuses (LCS)

The MSI 2022 group stage will kick off on Tuesday, May 10, and run until Sunday, May 29, when the grand final take place.
