What has the custom roll cage, boat headers, a V8 engine in the rear, won the Baja 1000, but sucks at autocross? No, it’s not Roadkill’s Mazdarati, it’s the Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus Boot. The soft suspension may be good for the dunes at Baja, but that doesn’t translate well to carving cones on the pavement. Admittedly, it still looks fun.
According to the Instagram post, the boot was a customer-owned example. And rather than going for the fastest time, the big Baja Boot appeared to be going for style points with tire smoke, incredible body roll, and steamrolling a wall of cones.
And that’s what autocross is all about. It’s a low-risk opportunity to wheel a $258,000 custom racing truck around a parking lot. You don’t just get a stripped-out old truck for that money though, including 19 in of suspension travel, almost every inch on display here.
The SCG Boot features a chromatic chassis with a composite body, featuring a removable hardtop and removable doors. Two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are selectable, and the wheels are powered by a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 that produces 460 horsepower. Fires also have the option of bumping that number up to 650 horsepower, as well as upgrading the 37-in BF Goodrich mud terrain tires to 39-in units.
Because this is an endurance racing truck, the SCG Baja Boot features a 30-gallon gas tank, a front winch, roof rack, light bar, onboard fired suppression system, and an onboard compressor.
Don’t think that just because it’s a race car it doesn’t have any creature comforts, it also features a leather interior, touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and GPS, a backup camera, air conditioning, power windows, and a glove box.
Now we’re wondering how a Ford Bronco DR would do around the cone course.
