The new Ford F-150 lightning started production in April, and has completely sold out of its four different trims. We’ve learned a lot since its debut including towing stats, pricing, and range. One man in Standish Michigan offers up his real world test, towing a pretty neat Airstream trailer with an F-150 Lightning Platinum.

Oneguynick (Nicholas) on the F-150LightningForum shared his experience towing a 23-foot Airstream trailer around his town. Overall, Nicholas observed a decrease in range of about 50% while towing. His stats show 0.8miles per Kilowatt hour as opposed to his usual 1.5 to 1.8 observed on road trips when not towing anything. The Ford F-150 Lightning has the ability to calculate the impact towing has on mileage and when Nicholas plugged in his trailer’s height, weight and other stats his mileage went from 84 to 54 miles of range. In total, the Airstream trailer weighed about 6,000 pounds fully loaded with gear. Overall his experience with towing on the F-150 Lightning was good, the torque in particular made it an easy towing experience.

The F-150 Lightning Platinum was one of the last trims to sell out, as it’s the most expensive trim with a baseline price tag of $90,874. That price tag is on par with the likes of GMC’s Hummer EV. The truck doesn’t need a lot of expensive add-on’s either, it comes standard with luxury features such as the Max Tow Package, as well as the Tow Technology Package and an extended range battery. The extended range battery is capable of 300 miles. The Platinum trim has a max towing capacity of 10,000 pounds and payload for the F-150 Lightning with a base battery sits at 2,000 pounds which isn’t bad at all especially considering the towing abilities of the Lightning’s rivals.
