Kevin McCarthy has Trump’s endorsement but the Republican voters are expressing their disagreement.
“The president bears responsibility for Wednesday’s attack on Congress by mob rioters. He should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding,” Kevin McCarthy said in 2021 and the Trump base is posting this quote across social media channels as a reminder.
“I thought Trump wanted to drain the swamp?,” one of the comments read on Twitter.
“It’s hard to defeat the GOP establishment when Trump is propping up its leaders and that is what this endorsement for Kevin McCarthy accomplishes: nothing good,” said journalist Pedro Gonzales.
“Trump seems to be trying to draw people to his social media site by not putting out endorsements through press release anymore and doing it on Truth Social. Last night, he endorsed Kevin McCarthy’s re-election, which isn’t necessarily backing him for Speaker if Rs get control,” said Maggie Haberman.
In his statement, Trump said that McCarthy is an “outstanding Representative for the people of California.”
