When Jeep brought back the Wagoneer nameplate as a trim level for its premium full-size SUVs and as a sub-brand, many people found themselves confused. Offering a premium sub-brand of one of the most well-known global nameplates in the world was strange, but done for the pursuit of being fancier and having the sub-brand offer a more premium lineup of vehicles and customer experience.
Next Wagoneer Model: Details
According to Mopar Insiders, another smaller wagoneer vehicle is expected to be added to the mix sometime in 2024 or 2025. That vehicle is expected to be based on the next-generation Cherokee. While it’s too far ahead for any significant information to be known. It’s likely going to be built on the all-new STLA Large architecture. If you don’t know, that’s an evolution of the current Giorgia architecture, which underpins vehicles like the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Alfa Romeo Giulia, and Alfa Romeo Stelvio.
The next-generation Cherokee will likely be offered with front-wheel-drive as its basis. However, we’ll probably see the smaller Wagoneer featuring all-wheel-drive as standard equipment. In addition to the drivetrain, it’s no secret that Jeep is continuing its push toward electrification across its lineup. Because of that, we will likely see the smaller Wagoneer be a full battery-electric vehicle (BEV) or offer some form of internal combustion engine paired with a hybrid system.
Like most things regarding this new Wagoneer, it’s still unknown whether it will offer two-row or three-row seating. Based on the Cherokee, it will more than likely be a D-segment SUV. Nevertheless, we will have to bide our time and keep a watchful eye for any new information that might emerge, but 2024 and 2025 are still a distance away, and only time will reveal what Jeep has planned for the smaller premium SUV.
