CHEVROLET DEBUTS NEW 2023 COLORADO ZR2 RACE TRUCK

Chevrolet is ready to put the new 2023 Colorado ZR2 through its paces this weekend at the Best In The Desert offroad racing series, and will do so in the form of a new racing truck that Chad Hall Racing will compete with.

Courtesy of the Chevrolet Performance Facebook page, we’re getting an early look at the new Colorado ZR2 in race truck form. We don’t have many details about the specific parts that are fitted to the machine, but from the looks of things, the truck appears to be near stock.

There’s likely some trick components under the skin that we’re still unaware of, but on the exterior, we can see the addition of off-road lights on both the front bash bar and above the windshield, while the bed holds a set of spare wheels and tires. A racing livery has also been applied that reminds us of the previous generation Colorado race truck, featuring a black and red gradient pattern with bowties in between. It’s signature Chad Hall Racing.

The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 utilizes a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which makes 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft. of torque in the road-going version. For the race truck, we’re guessing that a few upgrades have been made to increase reliability for racing that unhinges a bit of emission controls, but will otherwise remain unchanged.

The Best In The Desert series is available to watch online on Method Racing Wheels website. The first race in the series starts on August 12th, and will take the racers on a course from Beatty to Dayton, and covers 495 miles from start to finish.

Chevrolet has competed in the race series before with the Colorado, and brought a few big wins to the Chevrolet Performance racing team. We’ll be keeping an eye out to see how Chevrolet Performance and the Colorado race truck perform.
