RIVIAN R1S SPORT: EXCLUSIVE DETAILS

Even as our reporting here at Muscle Cars & Trucks focuses, embellishes, celebrates and evangelizes what our namesake would suggest, we also have eyes on the trendy electric vehicle space. So while we’re constantly delivering heaping scoops of future product news such as the S650 Mustang, electric Corvettes, the future of Dodge, what’s next for GM trucks, and more, we also have exclusive details to share about electrics. Today, we’re shedding light on the Rivian R1S Sport. Below is everything we currently know.

The Rivian R1S Sport will be a two-row SUV based on the current R1S, but will feature a sloped roofline, a more maneuverable wheelbase, and (hopefully) a slightly lower price point. Think an electric equivalent to an Audi Q8, but with far more off-road chops. The Rivian R1S Sport could make for the perfect rival to the upcoming Scout electric SUV from Germany’s Volkswagen Group, or could just as well poach from existing performance SUV customers ranging from the Tesla Model X to the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. Production of the Rivian R1S Sport is currently scheduled to begin production in Q4, 2024. Roughly two years away from now.

R1X – Fact Or Fake?

Rivian is also working on new battery technology that should improve the power and range of the R1S and R1T. This has the tabloids speculating that this high-output powertrain is the R1X. This vehicle is reported to be a radical Rivian that will run away from the rest of the BEV SUV/truck pack with over 1,000 horsepower. But this sort of output could also be an eventual rolling update for the existing R1T and R1S families, as their lifecycles continue onward. Or the R1X could be a performance trim level for both. But before anybody gets carried away with what’s happening next, Rivian has to get these two electric vehicles out the Normal, Illinois assembly plant and into the hands of customers at a quicker rate.
