The 2023 C8 Corvette Z06 is an extremely hyped vehicle, and it seems it’s already giving prospective buyers a tough time, which isn’t surprising given the state the market has been in over the past couple of years. It was clear that GM wouldn’t be able to build enough Z06s to satisfy demand in a single model year. Still, recent news discovered by the Corvette Forum reveals that the automaker is only dolling out 315 allocated units for the track-focused Corvette in August.
2023 Corvette Z06 Production Constraint: Details
In addition to the low allocation of C8 Z06s being produced, a chart reveals that some significant constraints will affect the entire 2023 model year. According to the chart, 2023 Corvette Z06 production is limited by a “plant restriction,” which has nothing to do with supply constraints. As a result, it’s unclear how many Z06s GM will be able to build for the 2023 model year, but it could be around 3,000 or so, according to the chart. However, that depends heavily on whether GM can actually build 30,000 total units of the Corvette.
If that wasn’t enough to create disappointment amongst future owners, the graph shows that only three percent of the total 2023 Z06s built will come equipped with the optional aero features. Clearly, the aero cars would be limited, but three percent is an overwhelmingly low percentage. Outside of the Z06, the chart shows that the remainder of 2023 Corvette production will be broken down into 60 percent Stingrays equipped with the Z51 package, 40 percent without, and 60 percent featuring Magnetic Ride Control. All of these constraints are due to supplier and chip issues.
The big takeaway is that a customer-owned 2023 Corvette Z06 will be a rare sighting on roads for a good while. Not all that surprising given that we currently live in a time where production constraints are causing significant setbacks for many new automotive vehicles with extremely high demand.
