The new compact crossover from Dodge boasts incredible performance at a reasonable price, and it has already seen some significant success. Within just 24 hours since it was unveiled, the 2023 Dodge Hornet has already received 14,000 preorders. During Day 3 of Speed Week, Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis revealed this information before debuting the all-electric Charger SRT Banshee electric muscle car, and without a doubt, that number continues to grow.
2023 Dodge Hornet: Details
The entry-level model is slated to reach dealerships in late 2022. The Dodge Hornet GT promises impressive performance for under $30,000, utilizing a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The engine produces 265 horsepower, which is sent to all four wheels, resulting in a 0-60 mph spring of 6.5 seconds. Not only that, but Dodge has plans to add several products for the Hornet via Direct Connection, enabling customers to enhance the performance of the CUV further.

A step up from the Dodge Hornet GT is the R/T, where electrification comes in—featuring a turbocharged 1.3-liter engine for the front wheels and a 90 kW electric motor for the rear. The combined output is 285 ponies, and an electric-only mode allows 35 miles of travel on a full charge. For performance fans, a PowerShot feature adds a temporary 25-hp boost that can increase the 0 to 60 time of the vehicle by an entire second.
14,000 preorders in just 24 hours is impressive, as Dodge showrooms have been relatively starved for “new” product. The Hornet stands to be a white space entry in an otherwise saturated, cutthroat segment full of competent yet otherwise extremely boring products. The 2023 Dodge Hornet looks to stand out by injecting a bit of muscle car ethos into the mix, offering the most power for the money.
