On Saturday, Britney Spears posted a series of audio clips on Instagram and opened up about her difficult estrangement from her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.

Jayden, 15, and Spears’ ex-husband, Kevin Federline, recently addressed the familial issues during a preview of an upcoming British ITV documentary. Spears’ posts were in response to their comments about distancing themselves from her.

In the audio clips, the pop star recalled having her kids most of the time when they were younger, and she admitted to really struggling with being separated now.

“Since they’ve been gone, I’ve honestly felt like a huge part of me has died. Like, literally, I have no purpose anymore,” she shared. “They were my joy, they were my everything… that was what I lived for. And then all of a sudden, they were gone, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, did my heart just stop beating?’ Honestly, I don’t understand how it’s so easy for them just to cut me off like that. I don’t understand it.”

Spears emphasized, “All I know is my love for my children is more than anything, and I’m sorry if I ever hurt you guys in any way.”

“Jayden and Preston, I adore you,” the singer addressed her teens, directly. “I was told you guys have blocked me, but I will speak here… I’m so blessed to even call you mine, and I just want you to know I apologize.”

During the preview of the documentary, Jayden explained why he and his brother did not attend their mother’s wedding to Sam Asghari on June 9.

“At the time it just wasn’t a good time to go. I’m not saying that I’m not happy for her. I’m really happy for them, but she didn’t invite the whole family, and then if it was just going to be me and Preston, I just don’t see how that situation would have ended on good terms,” he said.

As for reconciling with his mother, it sounds like there’s still hope there.

Jayden shared, “It’s just going to take a lot of time and effort. I just want her to get better mentally. When she gets better I really want to see her again.”

Spears initially responded to her son on Friday. “I say to my son Jayden that I send all the love in the world to you everyday for the rest of my life,” she said.

“My love for my children has no boundaries and it deeply saddens me to know his outcry of saying I wasn’t up to his expectations of a mother… and maybe one day we can meet face to face and talk about this openly,” she added.
