FORD F-SERIES SALES AHEAD OF CHEVROLET, RAM, GMC HEADING INTO Q4 2022

Ford likes to remind everyone that the F-series lineup is America’s best selling truck family. They’re not wrong, they have been number one for several decades and they will likely continue that trend for 2022, unless something crazy happens. Be that as it may, production slowdowns have brought the margins closer than you’d expect.

At the moment, The Ford F-Series holds a comfortable 49,856 unit lead over Ram and a 50,764 unit lead over Chevy. Ford also leads the way in terms of year-to-date sales despite being down from last year. Ford has 467,307 units in total year-to-date sales while Chevy and Ram sit at 381,337 and 363,089 units respectively.

Despite ongoing chip shortage and other major supply chain kinks, the Ford F-Series appears to maintain a comfortable lead on the Chevrolet Silverado and Ram 1500. But when the GMC Sierra is factored in, General Motors as a company is far ahead of everybody in truck sales. That said, every Detroit Three full size truck is down in YTD sales.

As for which brand will take the 2022 sales crown, it’s going to come down to who can actually fulfill Q4 deliveries. With trucks stockpiled in various holding lots all over the country, waiting for chips and other essential items, we could see a come-from-behind win from either Chevrolet or Ram. However, with gas prices on the upswing once again, a market recession, and rising interest rates, consumers may not have enough cash-in-hand to commit to these premium pickups.

Looking ahead, General Motors is slated to launch its refreshed 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD and 2024 GMC Sierra HD in the first half of 2023. Ford will be doing the same with a new Ford Super Duty, while Ram is set to debut a concept version of its Revolution electric truck next month, and a “smaller truck” to select dealers in the Spring of 2023. Indeed, the truck war wages on, and you can follow it in detail here at Muscle Cars & Trucks.
