FORD F-150 LIGHTNING ENGINEER REVEALS NEW DETAILS IN REDDIT THREAD

On September 22 at 1:30 PM ET, the vehicle engineering manager from Ford’s F-150 Lightning team hosted an AMA (Ask Me Anything) regarding the all-electric truck. While a lot of the questions and answers weren’t too exciting. There were two features talked about during the AMA that piqued our interest, and we thought we might share them with you.

Ford F-150 Lightning Engineer Reddit AMA Recap

Pro-Power onboard is an extremely useful feature of the Ford F-150 Lightning. Enabling people to plug in and power an assortment of things as if the truck was a portable generator. However, the catch is that the vehicle must be turned on for this feature to work. However, it seems that Ford is looking into making it possible to use the feature without needing to turn on the Lightning, per the engineer’s reply.

The second notable ask on the Reddit forum was regarding Ford putting together an even more off-road capable truck. Perhaps something along the lines of an FX4 package for the Lightning. It seems that since each trim of the Ford Lightning is already 4×4 and features metal skid plates, and has excellent off-road capability. Ford doesn’t see any reason for building a specific FX4 model for the Lightning. So, if you want more capability, lift the truck a bit, add some beefier tires, and have at it.

The Ford F-150 Lightning has undergone rigorous testing on simulators and on the road, including epic trips in Alaska and Davis Dam. As demand for the truck is high, Ford is aiming to ramp up production for the vehicle to 150,000 units per year by the end of next year at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn. With the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, Ford is now the second biggest EV brand for sales in North America.
