Earlier this year, muscle car customizer TransAm Worldwide debuted a new take on the 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS. If the name of the company sounds familiar, yes, they are the same ones to produce the Bandit Trans AM. Their new creation, however, is called 70/SS and it showed its face at the 2022 SEMA Show. ScottieDTV captured an up close and personal account of what to expect should you wish to order a 70/SS sometime in the near future.
The 70/SS borrows a sixth-generation Camaro platform for its foundation. From there the Tallahassee base company sculpted their best version of a modern 1970 Chevy SS. The side profile, and front fascia are nearly spot on. The new 70/SS retains those four round headlights, a seeming calling card of the car through the years. The new SS sports a bit bulkier body by today’s standards however. It even gives the widebody iteration of today’s Challenger and Charger a run for their money in terms of thickness.
The vehicle will be offered in three trim levels all of which sport a different engine package. First off, the 6.2L LT1 V8, which produces a healthy 450 horsepower. The second trim level features a Magnuson supercharged 396 V8 that will be capable of 900 horsepower (double the base level trim). The third level trim, which has a production cap of just 25 units overall, will feature the monstrous twin-turbo LS6/X 454 V8 producing a whopping 1,500 horsepower.
To take one home won’t be as cheap as it was in the 70’s however. TransAm Worldwide’s starting prices for the 70/SS are set at $150,000. Options include a palette of heritage and modern colors including a stripe, as well as a custom retro interior. You’ll also be able to select from a few different wheel variations and of course determine whether you want a hard top or soft top Chevelle SS.
