A new robot called aeo caused a stir at the CES 2023 consumer technology show in Las Vegas, which wrapped up Sunday. Designed to perform tasks including delivery, eldercare and security services, for example, this multi-function humanoid robot is notably assisted by its two articulated arms.

The Japanese company Aeolus Robotics presents aeo, a humanoid robot with two arms that offers new perspectives and highly practical uses, particularly for people with reduced mobility.

In terms of usage, it could potentially fulfill a variety of services, from delivery to care for the elderly and/or disabled, or the disinfection of healthcare premises. With its arms, this robot can lift heavy loads, pick up objects, open doors or even use an elevator. In addition, algorithms dedicated to vision allow it to observe its environment and thus adapt its posture in relation to its location and the position of the people it is in contact with.

With this new advanced robot, Aeolus Robotics intends to improve the quality of life of people in need of care or assistance. Until now, the Japanese company had developed single-armed robots. Aeo is the first to have two articulated limbs, thus expanding the field of possible interactions.

Aeo is already being deployed in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan, serving medical facilities. There, it can deliver meals or medicines, hold a telephone for a video conference or to call the emergency services, patrol day and night looking for doors and windows left open, or disinfect equipment or entire rooms.
