Now that the S650 Ford Mustang has been revealed with a targeted production start for the Summer of 2023 as a 2024 model year vehicle, there are just a few months left for for customers to order an S550 Mustang before it gets phased out of production.
During a conversation with brand manager Jim Owens, he mentioned that the demand for the S550 Mustang is still there, but the supply isn’t. That can be seen through the Online Configurator as a glance opens a pop-up with a message stating: “due to a combination of high demand and global supply-chain constraints, not all models and trims or features are available to order. Contact your dealer for available inventory stock or future availability.”
These supply chain shortages were likely a major contributor for record low Mustang sales observed over the 2022 calendar year.

2023 Ford Mustang: Details
Perhaps the biggest notable absence for the 2023 model year is that S550 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 won’t be available. Additionally, the Mustang EcoBoost Coastal Edition is not available. If you missed your chance to get ahold of one during the 2022 model year, you’d have to wait until if/when Ford debuts one for the S650 generation, pick one up second-hand, or see if any dealer just so happens to still have one in stock. As for color options, we previously expected the 2023 model year to lose Eruption Green and Mischievous Purple Metallic, but both remain. However, the Brittany Blue heritage color has been dropped. The color options for the 2023 Mustang are as follows:

- Race Red
- Rapid Red Metallic ($495)
- Atlas Blue Metallic
- Grabber Blue Metallic
- Dark Matter Gray Metallic

Pricing for the 2023 Ford Mustang starts at $29,790 USD, including the destination charge for the EcoBoost; the Mustang GT features a starting MSRP of $39,720 USD. Meanwhile, the potent Mach 1 will cost $57,945 USD, slightly more if you opt for the premium trim, which is the highest available option. But, of course, these prices are without add-ons, so if you plan to add anything, expect a higher price tag, especially with dealer markups.
It’s best to head to your local dealership to configure and order your S550 Ford Mustang, as they’ll know more about specific availability. Plus, with just a few months before production comes to a close, we recommend you act fast.
