‘Punched in the head’: Brisbane Bullets’ player found knocked out in NSW

Brisbane Bullets player Harry Froling has allegedly been assaulted and knocked unconscious in NSW, with police believing he was punched in the head.

NSW police said Froling was found on the footpath on Crown Street, Wollongong, in the early hours of Sunday.

Froling, 24, was taken to Wollongong Hospital, police said, before he self-discharged and travelled to Brisbane, where he attended the Prince Charles Hospital.

The Brisbane Bullets said the club was working closely with NSW police and the NBL Integrity Unit as it investigated the alleged assault.

“Harry is currently recovering from an incident that occurred following the team’s away game in Wollongong and will miss the remainder of the NBL23 season,” a Brisbane Bullets statement read.

“As an investigation is underway, the club is not in a position to make any further comment, other than to say the players, coaches and staff all send their well wishes and love to Harry, and his family.

“The club respectfully asks for privacy for the Froling family at this time.”

Police said scans revealed Froling suffered head injuries and he remained in a stable condition in Prince Charles Hospital.

“Officers attached to Wollongong Police District commenced an investigation and initial inquiries suggest the man was punched in the head and fell to the ground,” NSW police said.

Detectives said they wanted to speak with a man seen on Crown Street, opposite Aitchison Street, about the time of the incident. He was described as Caucasian, in his 20s, with short brown hair.

Police urged anyone with information to come forward.
