NU was picked in the preseason to finish 12th in the league. Over the 20 game Big Ten slate, the Huskers finished third with a 12-8 record. The 22 wins by Nebraska this season are tied for second most in program history. The Huskers open their conference tournament Friday nig...

After a year of improvement and what-ifs, next season looks like postseason or bust for the Nebraska men's basketball coach Keisei Tominaga's halfcourt heave at the end of Nebraska's 78-75 loss in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament last week was a perfect analogy for the 2022-23 men's basketball season. The shot — which was on-line and hit the back of the rim — was tantalizingly close enough to make you wonder about what could have been. But it also provided a harsh reminder of where Nebrasketball is at the end of Fred Hoiberg's fourth season: near the bottom of the league standings, on...

Husker Dan: Big wins over the past week and a half are reasons to celebrate. Don't look now, but several Husker sports teams recently got to celebrate big wins for their respective programs. Husker Men's BasketballOne of the biggest victories happened yesterday (Sunday) as the Husker men's basketball team did something it hadn't done since March 16, 2004: beat Creighton at the CHI Center in Omaha. That's a drought of over 6,000 days. (It was called the Qwest Center back then.) Going into the game, the Huskers were 20 point underdogs, but despite that, Nebraska led most of the way. The Huskers ...

Fred Hoiberg says new hire from South Alabama ‘fits what we were looking for’ Nebraska men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg has announced the newest addition to his staff. Adam Howard joins the Huskers as an assistant coach. He spent the past four seasons at South Alabama, carrying the title of associate head coach last year. “My family and I are humbled and excited for the opportunity to join Coach Hoiberg’s staff at Nebraska.” Howard said “Coach Hoiberg has been remarkably successful at every level of basketball, and I could not be more appreciative that the next step in my development as a c...

Game Day Enhancements? Husker Dan: What are your thoughts about selling alcohol at Husker football games?Rita BookePortland, OR Dear Rita: Coming in at #1 in UNL's recent poll of Husker season ticket holders was the desire to have seats that are more comfortable. That doesn't seem to be too much to ask for, right? Farther down on the fans' wish list was the ability to buy alcohol at Husker home footb...

Husker Dan writes about the storybook ending to the men's basketball season and interviews David Max about the history of HuskerMax. In what was improbable or even impossible to consider, the Husker men's basketball team has done it. It has won its last three games over a span of just seven days: 1.) A 93-70 win at Penn State February 27th 2.) A 78-70 win at Ohio State March 1st 3.) And 74-73 at Wisconsin March 6th What is noteworthy about the three victories is: 1.) All were conference wins. 2.) All were road wins. 3.) One was over a Top 25 team (# 23 Ohio State) 4.) And one was over a Top Te...

How long before patience pays off in Huskers’ major revenue sports? How important is loyalty, and how far should it go? Nebraska football fans built a reputation for loyalty throughout the Devaney-Osborne era as they built a Memorial Stadium sellout streak that continues to this day. Husker volleyball fans, who ramped up their expectations as Terry Pettit built that program, are still enjoying their Golden Age under John Cook, the best current head coach in Lincoln, and the Devaney Center sellout streak rolls on. Loyalty abounds at the grassroots level in Nebraska, the second-lowest-populated ...

Will the continued losing in basketball force Trev Alberts to make a decision sooner than he wants? With the winter winds blowing, let's gather around the warmth of some Husker Hot Takes. What do we do about Nebrasketball?Fred Hoiberg's team is bad. Historically, epically, painfully bad. There are very few positive things that can be said about the 2021-22 Huskers. Fewer things exist to provide hope for dramatic improvement next year. Bryce McGowens has lived up to his 5-star hype. He will likely win the conference freshman of the year award, but his still raw talents aren't enough to carry th...
