Husker fans are still buzzing over what many consider a terrible call late in last Saturday's game with Maryland. Because of that play and the continued ineffective play by the Husker QBs, there also have been calls for the dismissal of first year Husker Offensive Coordinator, Marcus Satterfield. I've already opined on the RPO play Rhule/Satterfield called on third and goal with about three minutes to go in the game. The score was tied at 10. Instead of playing it safe with a run, Husker third string QB Chubba Purdy was given a run/pass option. Maybe Rhule and/or Satterfield should have told P...

As expected, there was no announcement Thursday about who will start at quarterback Saturday night for Nebraska against Wisconsin. Haarberg, who injured an ankle last week in the Maryland game, has been limited this week but will test the ankle at full speed in practice Friday, head coach Matt Rhule said. "He'll definitely be available in some capacity, but whether he starts or not depends on how he feels on game day," Rhule said after Thursday morning's practice in his final pregame availability with the media. "He definitely wants to play," Rhule said. "He's pushing to come back and play." B...

Linebacker Luke Reimer left Saturday's game against Louisiana Tech with an injury, and coach Matt Rhule said Monday that his status for this week's game against Michigan is questionable. There's also a new element of uncertainty at quarterback. Jeff Sims is still coming back from an ankle injury, and Heinrich Haarberg left Saturday's game after taking a hit in the fourth quarter. "I don't think it's too much," Rhule said of Haarberg's situation, "but we'll reserve judgment until I see him (at practice Tuesday)." Rhule called the visit by Michigan, ranked No. 2 in the nation, a "great opportuni...

Question: How long has it been since the Husker football program last celebrated a home victory? If you answered 350 days, you get to go to the head of the class. If anyone had made that sort of prediction back in the '90s, people would have thought you were crazy. Amazing as it sounds, the last time the Huskers registered a home win was Oct. 1, 2022, when Nebraska defeated Indiana 35-21 at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. Indiana would go on to post a 4-8 record. NU Downs Northern Illinois 35-11Head Coach Matt Rhule was awarded a game ball for his role in Nebraska's win over the Huskies Saturday ...

When Trev Alberts hired Matt Rhule following a sixth straight losing season for Husker football, I don't think any reasonable fan expected an immediate turnaround. This program needed to be stripped down to the studs and rebuilt from its foundation. At the time, I felt Nebraska's athletic director had brought in the perfect coach to undertake that construction. I still do. This thing is going to take time though, folks. That realization might be a little hard to accept for some fans who — once again — got drunk off Kool-Aid this offseason. I guess I can't really fault some Husker fans for bein...

Matt Rhule called quarterback Jeff Sims "the total package" during the offseason. Rhule may have to re-evaluate his QB options after two games, as Jeff Sims has struggled mightily, turning the ball over three times per contest. Nebraska has a talented QB room with young, highly touted, award-winning high school quarterbacks. Adam considers the Huskers' options at the position in this episode of the Carriker Chronicles.

Quarterback health is an issue to watch this week as Nebraska gets set for its home opener Saturday night against Northern Illinois. Husker starter Jeff Sims could not practice Sunday because of the ankle injury he suffered Saturday during the fourth quarter at Colorado. Head coach Matt Rhule said Monday that Sims' status will be evaluated as the week progresses. If healthy, Sims remains the starter, but he needs to be better at protecting the ball, Rhule said. Sims is averaging three turnovers per game thus far as a Husker. Heinrich Haarberg took every snap but one after Sims left Saturday's ...

Wide receiver Billy Kemp IV didn't have a catch in the season opener. That needs to change Saturday against Colorado, Nebraska football offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield said Wednesday. Satterfield said the coaches needs to find a way to get the ball to the transfer wide receiver from Virginia. Plans were drawn up during halftime last week against Minnesota to do just that, but "we didn't get it done," Satterfield said. "The ball didn't get to him, so that's something that we've got to do this week. ... He's too valuable of a playmaker. Not just a receiver. He has to have that ball in h...

With Zavier Betts gone and Marcus Washington injured, there are opportunities for Nebraska's younger wide receivers to step up. "We have some young wideouts who are very talented and explosive, and they're going to get a chance," offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield said after Monday's practice. True freshmen face a daunting learning curve, but two of them in particular have caught Satterfield's attention: "You look at Jaylen Lloyd and [Jaidyn] Doss, those guys have made some plays." Satterfield also elaborated on the offense's struggles during Saturday's scrimmage. "Those young kids got i...

Respect. Coach Matt Rhule talked about restoring it to Nebraska football during his time on the podium Thursday at Big Ten Media Days in Indianapolis. Asked about his goal for his first season with the Huskers, Rhule said, "We want to be a team that you say, 'You know what? That team's feared.' But we're not at that point yet. We're at a point where I believe we have to take back the respect of what it means to play Nebraska and to be at Nebraska. "I want people to respect when they see that white helmet with that red N on it. I want our fans to respect us when they pay their money to come wat...
