Defensive coordinator Tony White said it was another "bloody Tuesday" practice for the Huskers. "They had a day off [Monday], so they're running around and it's really physical with a lot of competition," White said. "Ones on ones. Ones on twos. Stuff like that. It sets the tone for the whole week, because everything's about practice." It's no different just because second-ranked Michigan is coming to Lincoln on Saturday. "That's what we do, period, regardless of opponent," White said. "We want to set a standard of how we play, how physical we are regardless of who shows up. I think if we hold...

Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims appears on track to return to game action. Whether that happens this weekend against Louisiana Tech or sometime later is not yet known. During Tuesday's practice, Sims "probably got 50-55 percent of the reps," said Marcus Satterfield, the Huskers' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. "We did a little team compete period," Satterfield said. "I called some stuff where he had to keep the ball and run, and he did a nice job with that." Sims injured an ankle Sept. 9 against Colorado and sat out the Sept. 16 game against Northern Illinois. Heinrich Haarbarg st...

Less than three weeks before Nebraska football's season opener, the Huskers went through their 11th practice of fall camp Friday, and the focus afterward was on the defense. Defensive coordinator Tony White indicated the playbook on his side of the ball is still a work in progress. "We're going to take this last time remaining and make sure we know what we're doing. ... We have plenty of film of what we're running, so now we're going back through and seeing what can we do really fast and physical, what can we add, what can we take out, so that way guys can just go out there and play." Also spe...

It doesn't get as much attention as other position groups on the roster, but the linebacking corps will be undergoing a shift of its own this season at Nebraska. Their assignments will be different in defensive coordinator Tony White's scheme, with no carryover from the old defense. Linebackers in this system will be playing downhill. They will need to be fast, physical and aggressive. These guys are working from square one in this new 3-3-5 defense. How quickly they can pick things up will be vital this season. Along with new schematic responsibilities, there will be a shift in the physical p...

Coach says talent isn’t an issue, but confidence might be Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule said Thursday that the much-maligned offensive line is stocked with ample talent. Confidence, though, might be another matter. Speaking after the Huskers' ninth practice of spring, Rhule said the O-line is "as talented a one as I've ever been around in college football as a head coach. But are they going to believe it? Are they going to put it together?" "The narrative is 'the O-line's terrible', 'the O-line's terrible'. They hear that a lot, so I think all those guys on the offensive line just ha...
