Investigating authorities in Germany suspect that a pedestrian who was killed in the western city of Mönchengladbach was deliberately run over, a police spokesman said on Sunday in response to an enquiry. Former star player Rainer Bonhof was on Tuesday elected Borussia Mönchengladbach president, the Bundesliga club said. Bonhof, 71, takes over from Rolf Königs, who presided over the club for almost two decades. Bonhof started his professional career at Gladbach where he played 1970-1978, winning four Bundesliga titles, the German Cup and UEFA Cup. He also won the 1974 World Cup with West Germany.
