A look at Nebraska football’s three opening opponents College football fans know that each year most every college football team plays a 12-game schedule (excluding postseason play). Fans also know there are four quarters in each football game. In a stunning flash of genius (!), I've decided to review the 2022 Husker football schedule in four segments - hence the four quarters reference. First up are Nebraska's opening three opponents: Northwestern, North Dakota and Georgia Southern. Game #1: Northwestern Wildcats (aka ‘The Duel in Dublin’)Home: Evanston, Ill.Conference: Big TenPreseason Ranki...

Is there a bell cow for Nebraska in the group? By Aug. 27 when the Huskers open the 2022 season, first-year Husker running backs coach Bryan Applewhite has the task of developing three or four backs out of a total of 13 who can be counted on to consistently move the chains for the Big Red this fall. Not since 2018 when Devine Ozigbo led the Huskers in rushing with 1,082 yards has there been a RB who has had a thousand rushing yards for Nebraska. In fact, a really solid RB corps hasn't existed since the days of Ameer Abdullah ('11-'14) and Rex Burkhead ('09-'12). In the two years they played to...

Frost and players expect tough fight from Bulls For the second time in three weeks, Nebraska is facing a team with a new coaching staff. But unlike the situation with the opener against Illinois, the Husker football staff has actual game film to help in preparations. Buffalo "looked like world-beaters in Game 1," Husker coach Scoff Frost said of Buffalo's 69-7 win Thursday over Wagner. "They got ahead in that game fast and did some things late in the game that they didn't do in the first 20 snaps," he said, "so it's going to be a bit of a guessing game." The Bulls' players "know how to win," a...

Nebraska's starter at running back yet to be named Do the Huskers know who their No. 1 guy will be at running back? Not yet, offensive coordinator Matt Lubick said after Wednesday's practice. "We still haven't made a decision," he said. "We will play more than one guy, but we feel like we have lots of good players," he said, mentioning Sevion Morrison, Markese Stepp, Gabe Ervin Jr., Marvin Scott III and Rahmir Johnson. "You want to know who that guy is when it's third-and-one to win the football game,” Lubick said, adding: "We feel pretty good about it, but we’re not ready to say who that guy ...

There's encouraging news in the offensive backfield for the Huskers. Transfer running back Markese Stepp, recovering from offseason foot surgery, appears to be "100 percent and ready to roll," Nebraska offensive coordinator Matt Lubick said after Wednesday morning's practice. Quarterback Adrian Martinez was on the receiving end of praise from tight ends coach Sean Beckton, who said he's seeing a "night and day" difference in Martinez's mechanics and leadership. He's "demanding a lot" of himself and his teammates, Beckton said. Go here for video and photos from the open portion of Wednesday's p...
