The UK government is preparing for chaos ahead of the launch of the EU’s Entry-Exit system (EES). The incoming EU border scheme, set to be in place from 6 October, is expected to cause delays at the Port of Dover, south east England. Guy Opperman, a minister in the UK’s transport department, has now explained the scheme will have a “six-month soft launch” to make the process more simple. The EU has just made it easier for Indian nationals to travel to Europe. An update to the Schengen visa rules announced last week opens up multiple entry trips for frequent travellers. The so-called ‘cascade’ system enables Indian citizens who have used a short-stay Schengen visa twice within the last three years to apply for a two-year multiple entry visa. The European Parliament is developing plans to reform visa application procedures in the Schengen area by moving from a system where travellers are required to apply in person to get physical visa stickers to a digital system instead.
