The Ford Maverick currently reigns supreme within the compact truck market, but it’s on the verge of getting some serious competition. At least in South America. Ram Brazil recently published a video that shows what appears to be a 2024 Ram Rampage compact pickup prototype undergoing real-world testing in some serious off-road environments.
What Is The 2024 Ram Rampage?
The 2024 Ram Rampage can be seen with an independent rear coil suspension. It’s also mentioned that the truck will be powered by a Hurricane turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The engine comes in different configurations that can alter the output, and it’s unclear which configuration the engine placed in this unibody truck will have. Still, if given 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, it would give the turbocharged Ford Maverick and the turbocharged Hyundai Santa Cruz a run for their money.
The video shows some serious wheel lifts from the truck, along with some fun in the mud. Ram’s North American CEO, Mike Koval, also appears in the video, which is likely a reference to the co-development of this particular truck between Ram North and South America. We’ve already discussed the compact truck extensively, along with the probability of it reaching North American shores. While Mike Koval has expressed his interest in bringing a tiny truck to the U.S., the Ram Rampage won’t be coming here, at least not anytime soon. However, we can expect Stellantis and Ram to keep a close eye on the success of the 2024 Rampage in South America to determine how viable it would be to bring it up North.
In the meantime, while we watch and wait for a compact Ram truck, we can confirm that a midsize Ram is on the way for the North American market; with a concept design recently locked in, it likely won’t be long until that reaches the market. After that, we may finally get a compact Ford Maverick fighter from Ram, and Toyota is also working on entering that market.
