IF ALFA ROMEO MAKES A TONALE QUADRIFOGLIO, WOULD THAT MEAN A HORNET SRT?

Alfa Romeo’s Quadrifoglio vehicles are some of the best-performance SUVs money can buy. But with just two models in the range, Alfa’s offerings are thinner than what’s available from its German rivals, or even Cadillac’s V-Series. However, with the addition of the Alfa Romeo Tonale SUV in the lineup, a new addition to the Quadrifoglio lineup could be on the way. More to the point, since the new Dodge Hornet is based on the Tonale, that could mean an SRT version of the car could be in the cards, as well.

Alfa Romeo Tonale QF/ Dodge Hornet SRT: Speculation

Per a report from The Drive, Alfa Romeo isn’t interested in diluting the Quadrifoglio brand, which is something its German rivals have been accused of doing with its respective performance subsidiaries. This means that if they can’t deliver the level of performance expected with the QF while creating the new Tonale trim, they won’t do it. However, if they manage to crack the formula and make an exquisite performance hatch, good things will surely come.

To achieve Quadrifoglio levels of performance in the Tonale, Alfa would want to increase the power. Since the Tonale only offers a 1.3-liter engine with the assistance of a plug-in hybrid powertrain with combined outputs of 272 horsepower and around 350 lb-ft of torque (the same as the Dodge Hornet R/T), some serious modifications would need to be made to boost that number. Perhaps with more batteries, or a higher-output engine, or both. In the competitive landscape, We see the Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG, which has 382 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. So something that could deliver something around 400 hp and 400 lb-ft (in a small SUV, no less), would make for an absolutely wild ride from Alfa Romeo. The same can be said of a speculative Dodge Hornet SRT.

Given that the powertrain would use electrification, it would fit perfectly within Dodge’s current plans to switch everything towards electrification. In addition, the new Dodge Hornets are set to offer Dodge levels of performance coupled with fuel efficiency. With the removal of the current Dodge Charger and Challenger generations, an SRT trim for the hatchback would make many a person happy.
