Some free alternatives to Midjourney

Powered by artificial intelligence, Midjourney has become the go-to for creating images from simple text descriptions. Now available for a fee (starting at $10 per month), Midjourney has no shortage of equally powerful free competitors. The images may not be as stunning as with Midjourney, but these services can help you to master the art of the prompt, the queries that allow you to obtain the best possible pictures.

DALL.E

This is undoubtedly the best known alternative, published by OpenAI, the firm also behind ChatGPT. DALL.E can be used to generate quality images thanks to simple prompts, with the possibility of refining the quality of the image and even retouching it, by removing or transforming certain elements. All this is available for free with a OpenAI account (the same one as for ChatGPT) for about 15 queries per month. For more, you'll need to pay a fee.

Bing Image Creator

This service, which only requires a Microsoft account, is directly based on DALL.E technology, and is accessible for free and with no limits this time.

Craiyon

Originally, Craiyon was called DALL-E mini, actually being an open source copy of OpenAI's DALL-E project. Since then, the tool has progressed and offers nine images for each prompt. The result sometimes misses the mark, so it's wise to be as precise as possible in your prompts. Fortunately, unlike DALL.E, Craiyon is free of charge with no limit on the number of times you use it.

Leonardo AI

Highly promising, Leonardo AI is billed as a very powerful tool for generating new images. The site aims to be a specialist in artistic creations of imaginary worlds, characters and new objects. This platform is therefore particularly suited to game developers or budding artists. After a few suggestions, many settings, such as removing the background or changing the resolution, can improve the rendering of the image. Once again, the number of queries and modifications is limited in free mode.
