In 2019, the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison was introduced to the market. This off-road-ready truck was so popular that the 2,000 units Chevy offered for the year sold out in a concise amount of time. Over the years, the truck has retained its popularity as the ultimate off-road truck ready to play straight from the factory. In 2024, the next generation of the Colorado ZR2 Bison will be available. Chevrolet is anticipating the high demand again and will now double the allocated trucks.
“With Colorado, we’re all about making it made for more, and with Bison, that includes volume,” Chevrolet truck marketing director Mike MacPhee said during a media briefing attended by MC&T. “In fact, we’re doubling our volume on this truck, and that’s really in response to customer demand. Now what we’ve done here is create the ultimate Baja racer, it’s an Overlanding warrior, and we cannot wait for our customers to get behind the wheel.”
Since MacPhee stated that Chevrolet plans on doubling the volume, we can only assume that means that it’ll increase the production from the 2,000 annual units observed for the last-generation Colorado ZR2 Bison, built in partnership with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), to 4,000 for the new version.
Whether or not it’ll be enough to satisfy demand remains to be seen. Luckily, with the addition of the GMC Canyon AT4X AEV, the 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor, and the 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and Trailhunter, there will be plenty of new off-road focused midsize trucks on the market for customers to choose from.
2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison: Details
The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison uses the GM 2.7L I-4 Turbo High-Output DOHC engine, which gives the truck 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a Hyrda-Matic 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission. Regarding suspension, the truck features Multimatic DSSV dampers like the standard ZR2. Still, the Bison gets its first-ever Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers which should improve ride quality on the assorted terrain it’ll take on, even on small jumps if you are in the desert. The truck is around 2 inches taller than the standard ZR2 and features 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires. Pricing isn’t yet known, but we believe the new Colorado ZR2 Bison will end up around $55k.
