Clear Message From State Department: US Stance On Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Including  The Association Of Serb Majority Municipalities “Has Not Changed”

The United States’ stance on the EU-led Dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina “has not changed,” according to a State Department spokesperson speaking to The Pavlovic Today.

The clarification from the State Department follows remarks made on camera earlier this week by the US Ambassador to Serbia, Christopher Hill. He suggested that the formation of the Association of Serb Majority Municipalities should occur “in return for Serbia stepping back and giving Kosovo the capacity” to pursue memberships in international organizations.

In response to questions from The Pavlovic Today about whether Kosovo’s unfulfilled obligation, as per the 2013 Brussels Agreement, regarding the formation of Serb-Majority Municipalities could be utilized as a bargaining chip, the State Department reiterated its call for both countries to earnestly and urgently engage in fulfilling their Dialogue commitments.

“We reiterate our calls for both countries to engage seriously and urgently toward this end and to fully implement all of their Dialogue commitments, which include the Association of Serb Majority Municipalities” a State Department Spokesperson told The Pavlovic Today. The State Department addressed these queries on Thursday.

Secretary Blinken’s current position, as conveyed by the State Department, emphasizes continued support for the EU-facilitated Dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

“We continue to support the EU-facilitated Dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia as the only path to achieve a peaceful and productive relationship between Kosovo and Serbia,” the spokesperson concluded.
