Democratic Senator from West Virginia, Joe Manchin, despite previously indicating his intention to run on a “unity ticket ” with Matt Romney, will officially declare on Friday his decision not to pursue a presidential candidacy, as confirmed by a source.
This announcement follows an extended period of deliberation, during which the 76-year-old Manchin considered entering the 2024 race.
Manchin has announced he will not seek re-election to the Senate this year.
“I have made one of the toughest decisions of my life and decided that I will not be running for re-election to the United States Senate, but what I will be doing is traveling the country and speaking out to see if there is an interest in creating a movement to mobilize the middle and bring Americans together,” Manchin said in a video statement.
It remains to be seen whether Manchin’s choice to forego a presidential bid signifies his complete retirement from politics.
