Passenger, 13, killed in 2-vehicle crash in Newark

A 13-year-old boy was killed Sunday night in a 2-vehicle crash at an intersection in Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The teen, whose name has not been released, was a passenger in a vehicle that collided with another vehicle between 9:30 and 10:30 p.m. in the intersection of Clifton and Montclair avenues, according to Thomas S. Fennelly, chief assistant prosecutor.

“The passenger in one of the vehicles succumbed to his injuries,” Fennelly said. A driver was taken to a nearby hospital, Fennelly said.

No charges had been filed as of Monday afternoon. Detectives with the prosecutor’s office and the Newark Police Department are investigating the cause of the crash.
