What is I Saw the TV Glow about?

Directed by Jane Schoenbrun, in what is only her second feature film, I Saw the TV Glow is a horror movie that is produced by Fruit Tree, a production company owned by Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone and her husband.

The chilling movie tells the story of two outcast teenagers, Owen and Maddy, who bond over their shared love of a light-night TV show. But when that show is suddenly canceled, the lines between reality and the mysterious series begin to blur.

Starring as the movie’s leading duo are Justice Smith – of the Jurassic World films, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Detective Pikachu – and Brigitte Lundy-Paine – who fans will likely know best for the Netflix series Atypical, 2019’s Bombshell and 2020’s Bill & Ted Face the Music.

I Saw the TV Glow made its debut in January 2024 at the Sundance Film Festival and is slated to arrive in theaters on May 3.

What critics think

Despite the movie being several months away from its release, I Saw the TV Glow has already been reviewed by plenty of critics who have seen it at various film festivals this year.

As a result, the movie has already earned an impressive 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 33 reviews.

That score has the potential to fluctuate between now and the film’s full release when more reviews arrive.

Early reviews from critics have described the movie as daring and mesmeric and have praised its confident direction from Jane Schoenbrun.

Although criticisms said that I Saw the TV Glow was perhaps a little muddled and rough around the edges.
