'Starting to think that': Pundit says £30m Liverpool player should ask his agent to get him a move away

Shaka Hislop believes that the time has come for Caoimhin Kelleher to start looking into moves away from Liverpool, with the goalkeeper never letting Jurgen Klopp’s side down when he gets a chance.

Caoimhin Kelleher seems to win more and more admirers every time he steps out onto the pitch for Liverpool. Kelleher made some brilliant saves in the Carabao Cup final at the weekend.

And he made some crucial stops again on Wednesday night as the Reds beat Southampton to reach the quarter-final of the FA Cup.

Caoimhin Kelleher should be looking to leave Liverpool

Liverpool are realistic that they are going to struggle to hold onto Kelleher in the long-term. Of course, he has spent his time in the first-team as Alisson Becker’s understudy on Merseyside.

Liverpool value Kelleher at around £30 million. And on current form, that could prove to be a real bargain for someone looking for a goalkeeper this summer.

Speaking on ESPN, Shaka Hislop believes that the Republic of Ireland international should be looking into his options in the near future – if he is not already.

“If I’m Kelleher, I’m starting to think that now. And listen, while rightly we’ve sang Kelleher’s praises over the last couple of weeks for those performances, I can’t think of an occasion where he’s come in and not stood up, and not delivered a good performance,” he said.

“So at some point – while he’s not better than Alisson, he doesn’t need me to tell him that – to continue to improve, you’ve got to play consistently. And I think at this stage of his career, of his own development, he needs to start having that thought and getting his representatives to find what is the right opportunity for him.”

Coming through at the wrong time

Unfortunately for Kelleher, he appears to be coming through at the wrong time. Alisson turned 31 in October. So the Brazilian has plenty of time left at the very highest level.

Kelleher would certainly be taking a big gamble sticking around, particularly with Liverpool appointing a new manager this summer.

With his stock so high right now, it may be the best possible time to let him go. Kelleher can get his career properly up and running, and Liverpool will receive a good fee for someone who does not currently get into their strongest lineup.
