Man called 911 before stabbing woman in hotel room and being shot by cops, officials say

A man who was shot and injured by police in a hotel room in Old Bridge after he allegedly stabbed a woman had minutes earlier called 911 because he alleged people were threatening him, a court document said.

Christopher Serrano began to stab the woman in the neck as police entered the room at the Hampton Inn on Spring Valley Road shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, according to an affidavit of probable cause outlining an attempted murder charge against the 42-year-old Manalapan man.

Serrano met the woman at the hotel earlier that night and later became furious when he thought she was talking to another man, the complaint says.

Serrano called 911 and a short time later “got irritated” and retrieved a pair of scissors from his bag, authorities said. He then put one arm around the woman’s neck while using his other hand to place the scissors against her throat.

When he heard police arrive at the door, Serrano began stabbing the woman, the affidavit states. Police fired on Serrano when they entered the room.

The woman was brought to an area hospital with neck, head and arm injuries. She is expected to make a full recovery, authorities said previously.

Serrano remains hospitalized Friday morning, a spokeswoman for the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said. The suspect’s attorney, Thomas S. Mirigliano of New York, couldn’t immediately be reached Friday.

The suspect is also charged with two weapons offenses.
