As well as Gordon, two more senior players have not been spotted in Newcastle's training photos today

There are a couple of surprising players missing from Newcastle United’s training pictures ahead of facing Manchester City on Saturday.

The Magpies are hoping to bounce back in the FA Cup after their disappointing Premier League defeat to Chelsea, but could be without some key players.

Kieran Trippier will continue his injury absence with a calf problem, while it is anticipated that Harvey Barnes will miss out due to a hamstring issue.

Neither player has been seen in the club’s official training photos, and the same goes for Anthony Gordon. He hurt his knee on Monday night, and we are nervously waiting to discover exactly how long he will be out of action for.

Gordon is another player who is a doubt for the game against Manchester City, but two more of his teammates are also conspicuous by their absence.

Livramento and Almiron not seen in Newcastle training pictures

Newcastle United have uploaded 28 photos from Wednesday morning’s training session to their official website, with Tino Livramento and Miguel Almiron not spotted in any of them.

It is strange for them not to feature, as neither appeared to be an injury concern coming out of the defeat to Chelsea.

Almiron did come off in the second half but did not look to have a problem, while Livramento played the full game against his former club. In fact, the 21-year-old was probably Newcastle’s best player at Stamford Bridge.

Fans will be expecting both to start at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday night, but this update from the club does cast some doubt over their availability.

Of course, this does not mean that they are injured or have missed training. They may simply have just avoided the cameras, but it is certainly something to keep an eye on as we hurtle towards this weekend’s FA Cup quarter final.
