The FSB claims the detainees were planning to poison humanitarian aid intended for Russian troops in Ukraine with a “highly toxic chemical substance.” They also allege the group conducted reconnaissance of critical infrastructure in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast, possibly for future “terrorist attacks.”

The FSB's investigative service has initiated criminal cases against the detainees for their alleged "participation in the activities of a terrorist organization," which is how Russia classifies the RVC.

The Russian Freedom Legion announced on March 12 its control over part of the village of Tiotkino in Kursk Oblast, with the advance ongoing. The ASTRA Telegram channel, citing sources, reported that at least four Russian soldiers were killed, and nine others wounded in massive drone attacks and volunteer raids on March 12.

These units announced on March 13 strikes on military positions in Belgorod and Kursk, urging the population of these regions to evacuate immediately.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin referred to the volunteer raid in an interview with propagandists, labeling it an attempt to disrupt the “elections” in Russia and gain leverage in the upcoming peace talks.
