Young TV star's shock as mom refuses to help her - 'I'm rebuilding my own life'

Honey Boo Boo officially left home and headed for Denver, Colorado last year. The reality TV star started her freshman year at Regis University in the fall. And, despite being ready to take on a new challenge in life, her journey to get to college was by no means easy.

During her family’s reality TV show, Mama June: Family Crisis, Honey Boo Boo reveals her shock at her mom’s decision not to financially support her in college. But, when it comes to Mama June Shannon‘s reasons why, she’s set on prioritizing her own needs. The season 6 episode 16 scenes were drama-filled as June stated her truth.

Honey Boo Boo goes to college

In the fall of 2023, Alana Thompson, AKA Honey Boo Boo, began her studies in Denver.

She enrolled in a nursing course after spending the majority of her life as a reality star.

In Alana’s younger years, she was the star of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. And, per Celebrity Net Worth, she’s now worth an estimated $100,000 at the age of 18.

Mama June gives ‘tough love’

While Alana rose to fame as a youngster, she and her family are still starring in their own TV show into her adulthood.

Honey Boo Boo, her sisters, and her mom, Mama June, all appear on We TV’s Mama June: Family Crisis.

During season 6 episode 16, the subject of funding Alana’s studies came up and she was shocked by her mom’s response to helping her out financially.

According to Mama June, who refused to help Honey Boo Boo with funding, she felt her “tough love” was warranted.

Speaking to her partner during the show, Mama June said: “They wanted money for college, but I told her no, I’m still rebuilding my life and that is why i have chose to give her some tough love and say no, I’m not going to pay for college.”

She said how she wants her daughter to “see the bigger picture,” adding how she “doesn’t have millions in the bank.”

Honey Boo Boo and Dralin are moving in

As well as starting college, Honey Boo Boo and her longtime boyfriend Dralin Carswell moved in together when she relocated to Colorado.

During season 16 episode 6, Lauryn ‘Pumpkin Efird, takes Alana to check out the new state she’s going to live in and says how she never got the opportunity to follow any college, or moving out of state, dreams of her own.

The reality star was nervous about moving into an apartment she’d never seen, and her application for one place is rejected during the show.

But, it looks like everything came together in the end for the star as she’s studying at Regis University. She received a $21,000 scholarship to help with her college costs, writes TMZ.
