'He is a volcano': International manager says £20m Tottenham player is simply irreplaceable

Tottenham have a few players who don’t quite play regularly under Ange Postecoglou but are integral for their national sides.

Spurs have a solid squad now, don’t they? Postecoglou has done a tremendous job since taking charge of the club last summer, and he has improved almost every player.

The Australian has made quite a few changes as well. A few players who were key in the previous regime are no longer regulars at the club.

Such decisions have made Tottenham a better side, even though the players who have dropped down the pecking order may think otherwise.

International manager hails Tottenham player

The international break is a terrible period for us fans, especially when we’ve to see our key players travel for meaningless friendlies and risk getting injured.

For some players, however, these international games give the opportunity to get some good minutes under their belts as they are not starters at their club.

Tottenham have a few who fall into that category, and one of them is Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Dane was one of the first names on the team sheet when Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte were at the helm. He produced numerous brilliant performances for Spurs back then.

However, Ange Postecoglou just doesn’t fancy Hojbjerg, which is why he has started just six times in the Premier League all season.

Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand was asked if Hojbjerg’s place in the national team is under threat because he doesn’t play regularly for Spurs. He quickly dismissed that thought.

He claimed that Hojbjerg is irreplaceable for Denmark.

Nobody can replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Hojbjerg has been called up by Hjulmand for Denmark’s games against Switzerland and the Faroe Islands.

There were doubts whether he would be selected because he has barely played 1000 minutes of football in the Premier League for Tottenham this season, but Hjulmand’s comments suggest he will always have a place.

“If anyone thinks you can remove Pierre and replace him with someone else, it’s not true,” he told Bold. “He has been everything to us for the last three years. He is a volcano in the national team and has so much influence on our team.

“He is dominant with his physical strength and delivered a crucial goal against Finland. He has a passion that drives the team with ferocity. There is no doubt at all that Pierre has a huge impact on our entire team.”

Hojbjerg remains integral for Denmark, but he is almost guaranteed to leave Tottenham this summer. The £20 million man has no future at Spurs as long as Postecoglou is the manager.
