'I have to learn': 26-year-old West Ham player admits he's getting too many bookings

One West Ham United player has now admitted that he needs to make a change and needs to stop picking up so many yellow cards.

David Moyes and his players still must be so frustrated to this day that they didn’t manage to take three points against Aston Villa.

Moyes certainly made his thoughts on the decisions in the game very clear, feeling it was definitely two points dropped.

And although all at West Ham will be disappointed to not win either of their last two Premier League matches, with the draw against Burnley a real missed opportunity, form has definitely improved since February’s run of damaging defeats.

That being said, Edson Alvarez has been a huge contributor to everything good the Hammers have done this season.

And before heading on international duty with Mexico, the midfielder did take a second to discuss the alarming amount of yellow cards he’s picked up this season.

Alvarez took his total to 10 yellow cards against Villa, meaning he’ll now miss three of the next four games when factoring in his European suspension too.

West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez promises to get less yellow cards in future

Alvarez was speaking to the club website and was initially speaking about the disappointment following Sunday’s draw.

He said: “I think it’s normal [to be frustrated].

“I like to win. I am very competitive, obviously there is disappointment about the result.

“We knew that we could get the three points in the end, but the decisions are not in our hands and we have to move on.

“Everyone draws their own conclusions and I am very calm with my performance.

“I know that I am doing the best I can, I know that I can still give more and obviously the yellow [card] I picked up is something I have to learn, it is something that I have to improve on.”

For context, Emerson Palmieri has the second most yellow cards in the Premier League for West Ham with seven, a number shared by Lucas Paqueta.

And only Fulham’s Joao Palhinha has more in total across the Premier League with 12.

Alvarez is enjoying an excellent debut season, but as he states, it is something he can definitely improve on.

That being said, one pundit absolutely loved one individual performance against Aston Villa.
