'That’s why' – £47m Man Utd star admits he is 'not worried' about one criticism as he makes 'perfectly aware' claim

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes showed his elite mentality after he made an admission about his own performances at the Premier League club this season.

Bruno Fernandes has been a linchpin figure in the Red Devils’ first team ever since Manchester United signed him in an initial deal worth £47m in 2020.

Following his arrival from Sporting CP, Fernandes excelled under former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and made an immediate impact at Old Trafford.

The 29-year-old United midfielder inherited the captain’s armband for the current campaign after Erik ten Hag stripped Harry Maguire of the captaincy last summer.

United have significantly underperformed this season, with Fernandes coming under criticism for his role as captain and over his lack of impact and consistency.

The Portugal international has managed to score four times and registered six assists in 27 Premier League appearances for United this season.

However, Fernandes has now broken his silence over his current performances at Old Trafford and explained why he is still “calm” about his form at the moment.

Man Utd star Fernandes opens up on his form

Bruno Fernandes has linked up with his Portugal teammates during the international break after Manchester United’s sensational FA Cup win over Liverpool on Sunday.

The Portugal midfielder is a key part of Roberto Martinez’s squad and Fernandes will be expected to play in the upcoming friendlies against Sweden and Slovenia.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the Sweden match, Fernandes admitted that the current United season has been far from the best on an individual front.

The ex-Sporting CP man insisted that he is “perfectly aware” that he is capable of performing at a higher level, but he added that he is “not worried” at the moment.

“At Manchester United, it hasn’t been a successful season individually,” he said, as per Sky Sports.

“I am perfectly aware that I have the capacity to do more and better, as always.

“But I’m not worried about that at the moment because what I always say is that my commitment and dedication is always at its maximum, regardless of whether I represented Portugal or Manchester United.

“That’s why I’m calm about it and knowing that the quality of my performances can always improve.”

Fernandes still fully committed to Man Utd

Following the FA Cup quarter-final win at Old Trafford, Fernandes was visibly moved after he received incredible praise from a reporter over his commitment to United.

“You’ve been a kind captain there, giving everybody a bit of praise, so I’m going to give some to you,” an MUTV reporter told him.

“You are always available for this team. You always give everything that you can physically.

“It is appreciated by the fans all the way around the stadium. I hope you know how much you are loved by the fans.”

Fernandes admitted that he was a “little bit emotional” after the praise he received, admitting that he has experienced both the highs and lows at United.

“I appreciate that,” he responded.

“You’ve got me a little bit emotional because there are good and bad moments, but I am always there for them.”
