EFL pundit explains why Enzo Maresca will be ‘bricking it’ at Leicester City right now

Leicester City have endured a blip of late in the Championship and have been dragged back into the chasing pack.

The Foxes suffered a defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup on the weekend whilst their promotion rivals Leeds United and Ipswich Town both secured victory in the Championship.

Leeds moved above Enzo Maresca‘s side to the summit, dropping City down into second, and Ipswich now reside just a point adrift in third place.

Admittedly, Leicester do have a game in hand on the aforementioned pair but recent form suggests that it may not be taken advantage of.

With the gruelling 46-game campaign drawing to a close over the coming weeks, City need to return to winning ways or else they’ll risk dropping out of the automatic promotion spots.

Leeds and Ipswich have both been in sparkling form and certainly have the wind in their sails.

Speaking on the Second Tier Podcast, Justin Peach backed Kieran McKenna’s side to overtake Leicester City: “I’d fancy them for the title (Leeds United) and with the way Ipswich are going I’d fancy them for automatics over Leicester.

“If I was Enzo Maresca I would be bricking it. Obviously, they played in the FA Cup this weekend against Chelsea, it wasn’t fantastic.

“They didn’t create too much other than a worldie and an own goal. Again, if you want to take something away from that FA Cup game from a Leicester perspective it wasn’t great.

“So if I’m Enzo Maresca, I’m looking at that and going ‘not good, not good at all, they’re (Ipswich Town) only one point behind us and they are really confident and in form and we’re not’.”

All of a sudden, City have become the underdog after being the outright favourites for pretty much the entirety of the season.

Though, that may ease the pressure in many ways.

Leicester City must use doubters as motivation

The East Midlanders have been so used to sitting at the top of the Championship table going into every match week but when they make the trip to Bristol City at the end of the month, they’ll be in pursuit of Leeds.

That could be a benefit to Maresca’s side in many ways, however, as there’ll be slightly less pressure on them.

Many are doubting City at the moment and whilst the players should block out that external noise, it could be used as motivation to prove them wrong.

A telling few weeks await.
